My favorite time of the year has officially started today! FALL IS HERE! I keep looking in the back of my closet pushing away the urge to take out all my fall sweaters and jackets and scarfs. Its the first year I haven't bought one Starbucks pumpkin latte as soon as they come out. Both my daughter and I have been waiting for the trees to change color watching them waiting dreaming hoping its going to happen so soon. Who would have known that dying which is usually a tragic event could be so beautiful.
Millie has even learned a song about fall while in school. It goes to the tune of Are you sleeping? "Leaves are falling leaves are falling, to the ground, with out a sound. Days are getting shorter Nights are growing longer Fall is here, Fall is here." It has definitely become my favorite
as well.
All around me fall is sweeping in. I am ready for it to be here. Ready to settle down in my comfy over sized sweater with my audio book and hot chocolate and watch Halloween Movies.

Last fall I went to a Starbucks to get my first(!) Pumpkin Spice latte. I was very excited because I've been hearing about that drink so much that I had to pull a Van Gogh and cut my ears off.
ReplyDeleteI waiting in the line for 15 minutes, standing behind a gaggle of 20-somethings ironically wearing expensive jeans with holes in them and apathetically wearing scarves indoors, defeating the whole purpose of that accessory's function. But they were all on their phones taking pictures of their hipster boots, so they didn't notice anyway. I chose a different route. I let my eyes wander my environment. Nothing special ,just the Great Unwashed being its typical self-absorbed self.
That's when our eyes met. Mine and the woman behind the counter. She was lovely and quite unexpected in the squalor and sense of desperation that typically permeates Starbucks. I smiled, she smiled. I did a little eyebrow waggle, cheesy, I know, but that can work sometimes. And this was one of those times! In my head I practiced my banter, trying to figure out the proper approach to asking a woman for her phone number (I'm on the far side of high school, I haven't had to ask a girl for her phone number since beepers were a thing and people listened to CDs).
Two more people in front of me. One more. My palms were sweating, I was nervous, but excited! Then it as my turn! I slid up to the counter, only to have my beauty leave and some fellow took my order. Undaunted, I asked for a Pumpkin Spice Latte anyway, and moved on, sure that I'd be seeing her again.
I woke up three days later in the ER. It turns out that the vision behind the counter was the girlfriend of the guy who took my order. He saw our flirtation and put rat poison in my drink.
The moral is: Pumpkin Spice Lattes suck ass.
