I love the kitchen. It probably has something to do with the fact that its the center of my home. No really not because I cook a lot or anything but because literally everything in my house is centered off the kitchen. Its where we cook, its a laundry room and sometimes is a craft room on some rainy days. In my home it can easily become a catch all, probably in yours as well.
I have a pretty big kitchen but its also on the small side. Here are a few tips in helping keep you kitchen clean and orderly with out to much worry.
This is the ultimate Catch all- This is kind for the stuff that doesn't exactly have a space but needs one.
The top shelf has a box with my daughters coloring books and drawing supplies. I decided to put them up high because several of my doors now have pretty drawings all over them which made momma ooooohhhh sooo happy..... not. This way when she wants to I have to get them out and they aren't all over the house.
I also have my camera up there, so she can't break it. As well as a few other house keeping things such as light bulbs.
This counter on the right side of my sink is the dreaded pile your shit and run table. So my goal for myself is to keep this as clean as possible. Under one of the cabinets is a paper towel holder. I really like this instead of the standing holders because its one more way to keep the counter clean. I also have another stand for my phone to charge on. I want to start keeping my electronics in the kitchen instead of in my room (not sure how well that is going to go over).
In the corner is my binder of foods we like to cook in my home. Seems silly but I sometimes forget about some of them so it helps on nights when I haven't decided what to cook. Also a good thing if we have a babysitter, not that I ever get to do that but maybe someday!
I added some command hooks on the bottom of my cabinets so that I could hang the oven mittens. Here's a tip: Two pot holders for hands and one maybe two square pot holders. Don't crowd your drawers with a million pot holders when you probably only use a couple.
Also found the hanging shelf and the stand alone shelf at thrift stores- There are normally quiet a few I would check out a few thrift stores and get your favorites.
I fnally went through all our cups and narrowed it down to four glass cups four coffee cups and four wine glasses. I also got rid of all of our Tupperware and bought new. Tupperware builds up over time and then we have an excess of plastic containers we don't really need! I used a basket to keep track of the lids.
This is my favorite cabinet! Get spice rack it is amazing and helps me see what I have. I tend to use the same three spices because normally they are crowded on the shelf.
Command Hooks- I only had two big hooks left but they worked Perfectly for our measurement cups and table spoons. This gives everything a place to go with out crowding my drawers up.
This is my new favorite space- My laundry room is in the corner of the kitchen which can cause unneeded mess of clothes on the floor which looks tacky and messy. Once again I used Command hooks and found a mesh bag from the Dollar General for 2.50. I am sure you could find one cheaper at the Dollar Tree but I wanted something a bit stronger.
I hope these tips help you get organized. There is a lot I still haven't done yet so if you have anything you want me to do and maybe do a tutorial because I know some of the pinterest stuff looks easy and then its not I will be your test dummy and check them out for you.
If you have a space you need help organizing let me know and I will do my best to help you out.
Have a Great Monday!
